What to Expect on Test Day

Knowing what to expect can help calm your nerves and prepare you for success.

1

Arrive Early

Arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your test time. Bring your provisional licence and theory test pass certificate. Your driving instructor will usually bring you in their car.

2

Eyesight Check

The examiner will ask you to read a number plate from 20 metres away. If you wear glasses or contacts for driving, make sure you have them.

3

Show Me, Tell Me Questions

You'll be asked two vehicle safety questions - one before you start driving and one while you're driving. Practice these with your instructor.

4

The Drive

The test lasts about 40 minutes and includes around 20 minutes of independent driving, following either a sat nav or road signs. You'll also complete one reversing manoeuvre.
